THE SHIP’S NAME
The ship’s name originates from the name of the first Raja (Ruler) of Kedah who became the first muslim Raja of Kedah and was named Sultan Muzaffar Shah. Kedah is one of the 13 states of Malaysia, situated at the north of Peninsular Malaysia with a population of over a million and covering an area of 9,425 square kilometres. Sultan Muzaffar Shah ruled Kedah for approximately 55 years between 1136 to 1179. During his reign he spread Islam throughout Kedah. The name Kedah Darul Aman also came into being during his reign Kedah at that time was a famous port for merchants from Arabia, Persia, India and China.
All Royal Malaysian Navy ship carry the prefix KD ( Kapal DiRaja ) meaning His Majesty Ship, Malaysia being a constitutional monarchy modelled along the Westminster system of goverment.
